This month, Amanda from The Floral Design Boutique in Scotland takes on our 25 quickfire questions!
Please introduce yourself:
I’m Amanda! Owner and Lead Floral Designer at The Floral Design Boutique. My business creates floral design for weddings, events and corporate clients. I love everything about my job and couldn’t imagine doing anything else!
Your business…
1. Where do you call home?
South Lanarkshire is home for me in bonnie Scotland. I’m also very lucky that my studio is just a stone’s throw from Loch Lomond!
2. What made you want to set up your business?
I was working in banking for one of the big 5 and I hated it. I trained in Floristry years prior having been through college and worked in several shops but had to return to banking when life got in the way. Driving home one day I had a life changing moment that I’d had enough of giving something I hated so much of my time…. A mere few months and a LOT of hard work later, The Floral Design Boutique was born.
3. Why the wedding industry?
My passion in Floristry lies in those big, unique design briefs. Briefs I can really get my teeth into. Weddings have changed massively over the years with most now reflecting the personality and passion of the couple saying, “I Do”. I knew I had something unique to bring to the party and predominately did weddings in my first 3 years of business.
4. What’s the best part of your job?
I’m very lucky in that I enjoy all aspects of the business including the running of it and creating the final results, but the best part is that exciting (but nerve wracking) moment when I hand a Bride her bouquet. That has brought many a tear to my eye!
5. What’s the worst part of your job?
The first thing that comes to mind is doing stem count. For each item I create, I need to document every stem that is going into it when I am doing my ordering. It’s super important but it can get tedious!
6. What’s the weirdest request you’ve ever had from a client?
I’m asked this often and I honestly don’t have an answer! I embrace the weird so maybe I just don’t find their requests that odd!
7. You’re surrounded by beauty in your job, what do you find beautiful?
I am always mesmerised by the outdoors. The countryside especially is my happy place for sure, nothing mesmerizes me more than what nature has created.
8. Best piece of advice to offer to those getting married?
Do it your way! Anyone who is offering (or pushing!) their advice has either had their day already or will get their own turn, and I bet they did it/will do it their way, not yours!
9. Who or what is your biggest influence?
I follow lots of weddings blogs (Devine Bride included of course 😊) to keep up to date with latest trends and wedding news. Influence for me though has to be nature. I like to create designs that flow and inspire people, just like nature does.
10. Best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
In business, definitely know your client. Know them inside out and make everything you do about them.
11. What was your career plan B?
I’m living my plan B! Wooo!
You…
12. Tell us something surprising about yourself!
I’ve been 29 years old for 5 years now…. 😉
13. Pints and pies or coffee and cake?
Cake for sure but it’s a tea for me every time!
14. What’s your favourite shop?
Argggh I can’t do favourites, I like too many things!
15. If you could buy any building, which would it be?
What a fantastic question. Eilean Donan Castle in Scotland. I adore it all the mystery and romance of it.

16. Favourite film?
I honestly don’t have one! Is that odd? Favourites freak me out, why limit yourself to just one?
17. Your biggest pet peeve?
Arrogance.
18. What’s your guilty pleasure?
Eating copious amounts of chocolate, I could never get sick of it!
19. Favourite thing to do on a rainy day?
Getting head to toe in fleece and watching old movies.
20. Cosy night in or big night out?
Cosy night in for me every time!
21. What’s the most romantic thing someone’s ever done for you?
My husband hired a VW camper van as a surprise for my birthday weekend one year and we travelled around Scotland including the Isle of Skye. My birthday falls on Valentine’s Day, and on the night of my birthday we sat in the middle of nowhere and had a steak and champagne dinner under the stars.
22. Most perfect place for a sunrise?
South Africa, amazing country with beautiful sunrises I’ve been lucky enough to witness.
And finally…
23. Invisibility or flight?
Invisibility.
24. Do you believe in fate?
Yes.
25. If you could change one thing in the world, what would it be?
Every single person would have a safe place to call home.
Wow what an enjoyable read, I love the idea of a steak and champagne dinner under the stars in the wilderness in Scotland! (I might be a little bit biased of course!)
Thank you so much to Amanda from the Floral Design Boutique for taking part!
