An uber cool dry hire modern minimalist wedding with a neon sign (!) at Hackney Town Hall + West Reservoir Centre.
This was my last wedding of my ‘official season’ at the end of September, before working on weddings and parties for corporate clients in October and November… and it was amazing to go out with a bang!
Emma + Jonny were married at Hackney Town Hall, had some celebratory drinks at The Brownswood pub close by to their reception venue, and then walked over to the West Reservoir Centre for their full reception, including their wedding breakfast and evening party. Emma + Jonny were perfectly fine with the planning (in fact Emma nailed it!), but just needed a hand on the day managing their dry hire reception venue – while they were off actually getting married!
The West Reservoir Centre in Hackney is an amazing venue, but it is owned and run by Hackney Council to facilitate the reservoir sports centre and has a little café on site. This meant Emma + Jonny had limited access times on the day and could only officially start their wedding there from 5pm, so suppliers had to work around the building being open to the public from 12-5pm for set up. This dictated Emma + Jonny’s timings somewhat, but did not compromise their wedding whatsoever!
Emma + Jonny were careful to choose simple minimalist décor and details to complement their industrial urban venue, and it all worked wonderfully! I loved Emma’s eye for detail in keeping their décor modest, while also being super modern and stylish – this meant their awesome ‘happiness’ neon sign and colour pop balloons really stood out and were such fun features. (Very them!) With careful décor and furniture hire selections, they also managed to make a blank empty space feel very warm, fun and intimate – while still in keeping with the vibe of the building and incorporating its features.
Keen to move on to partying as soon as possible (to make full use of the neon sign as well!), Emma + Jonny were strategic in choosing a family style sharing platter wedding breakfast with all their favourite food. The speeches followed, then we had a quick changeround to get the space ready for dancing. They danced night away under a magical sapphire September sky, with the gorgeous reservoir and the Hackney cityscape as their backdrop.
I was at the reception venue from 12pm on Emma + Jonny’s wedding day, managing and arranging set up with all the suppliers and the caterers, then I popped over to the pub to check the welcome drinks were ready and to get the music lined up, then I popped back to the reception venue to arrange the last décor and set up for guests arriving. From 5pm onwards I was managing and directing the day, suppliers, and guests, and I left shortly after the first dance.
It was the perfect end to my season before getting back into weddings again in December ❤️
Thank you to Emma + Jonny for letting me share their awesome day!

“Laura was totally brilliant and there’s no doubt that having her on board made our wedding better – both for us and our guests. We approached Devine Bride relatively last minute, when we started to think we had bitten off more than we could chew with our dry hire reception. We couldn’t get access to the venue until midday the day of the wedding which meant we needed someone we could totally trust to bring our vision to life whilst we were busy getting hitched. Laura was so passionate and knowledgeable and took the time to get to know us. She asked all the right questions and produced a very impressive briefing document for all suppliers. Liaising with her always made me feel better about the task in hand…I was a bit of a stressed out bride having started a new job only a couple of months before the wedding. In our final meeting she even gave me advice on finding the right jacket to wear! On the day she was fantastic – the venue looked amazing, she kept everyone running to time, she even arranged a confetti throw for our first dance. I can’t say enough good things about the service Laura offers and thought it was great value for money. Emma & Jonny (Sept 2018)”
