Hackney Town Hall and Hoxton Arches Wedding with Fairy Lights

A hip Hackney Town Hall wedding ending up at Hoxton Arches, with fairy lights, a polaroid picture wall, Tim Tam roulette, and a naked cake.

Jo + Andrew had an intimate wedding with close friends and family who had travelled from all around the world to be with them. They were married last September at Hackney Town Hall and then had a routemaster bus to take all of their guests on to Hoxton Arches for their reception, via a scenic route – and got some lovely couple shots along the way.

They seemed to take planning in their stride and just needed a coordinator to help set up their reception venue on the day, and to help bring it all together for them 😊

Their day was relaxed but every detail was so well thought out – and deeply personal to them as a couple. It was a true celebration of their relationship, with photos of them and all the places they had travelled together adorning every wall and little nods to their journey together everywhere. Their favours were Japanese paper cranes as a homage to their engagement in Japan, folded in the most beautiful colourful Japanese papers. I couldn’t believe how gorgeously delicate and intricate they were when I opened the box on the morning of the wedding! I was in awe when they told me they had made them all by hand together over ‘a few nights in front of the telly’…!

Continuing their photo theme, we set up a little instax polaroid picture corner and strung some fairy light picture clips on the wall for guests to snap away their day to hang on the wall – complete with handwritten messages on.

Jo is originally from Australia so there was a large Aussie contingent, and a few tributes to her heritage including some fun blow up props for their instax photo corner, and Tim Tam roulette…! Which unbeknown to me was just where you get loads of different flavours of Tim Tams (an Aussie biscuit, much like a Penguin here in the UK) and empty them into one big container… so you don’t know which flavour you’re going to get! This was like a cooler more personal version of a pick n mix sweetie table, that allowed guests to have a nibble throughout the afternoon and to accompany the cake later too!

The cake was a simple but beautiful DIY naked cake from Waitrose, put together by me on the day – which I was slightly worried about I have to admit, but testament to Waitrose it was perfectly packaged per tier and super easy to put together, thank goodness! I just had to artistically DIY the fruit and sugar dusting, but I think it worked out ok in the end. 😊 (I actually keep disposable caterers’ gloves in my kit in case of such occasions…!)

The décor consisted of fairy lights and a fun pinata strung by the groom and FOB the morning of the wedding, and the ambience of the arch did the rest with all the other fun smaller details.

Then the rest of the day was filled with all the things they loved including great food, their favourite drinks (Gin, Peach and White Wine Sangria and Espresso Martinis), a pinata, line dancing… and lots of partying!

I was there for all the supplier deliveries in the morning, setting everything up, hanging all the pictures and styling all additional décor, and then I was coordinating and hosting the day from the couple’s arrival. It was the perfect Hackney Town Hall and Hoxton Arches wedding.
