Supplier Spotlight – Luxurious Glitter

This month I have a multi-talented babe of more than one amazing business, but the one I’m showcasing today is Luxurious Glitter.  Her work explodes with fun to match her super friendly and fun personality – and she’s an absolute hoot to have working at any wedding or event too. I have personally seen her in action at a couple of industry events, and the queue for the glitter bar did not stop all night!

So, here’s Claire, to tell you herself about her and her biz in my latest Supplier Spotlight!

Please introduce yourself:

Hey hey!! I’m Claire head glitter fairy, aka Glitter Boss of Luxurious Glitter, I run an eco friendly glitter bar for wedding receptions, hen dos and parties. Luxurious Glitter is nearly 3 years old. I’m a full-time hairdresser and Mum of Catalina and Lux, step mum to Scarlet, and wifey to Ben – we got married last year at Browning Bros and then got two puppy babies in November, Harry and Mallory. I’m a huge Disney and Harry Potter fan. And lover of all things colourful and sparkly!

Your business…

1. What made you want to set up your business?

I am a hairdresser and have owned and run Luxurious Hair and Beauty for several years… one year my niece asked if I would teach her and her friends how to plait her hair for her party. A couple of months later the second niece asked if she could have the same party but she had seen I had used glitter on a client and wanted it too. After that, a few enquires came and Luxurious Glitter was born. I started out with kids’ parties, and that grew onto adult birthdays and weddings.

2. What’s the best part of your job?

I absolutely love it when I see people’s faces. Us turning up and adults getting excited because glitter has arrived! Having a few people say ‘oh no I don’t do glitter…’ then an hour later seeing them covered in it and loving it. When glittering people and showing them in the mirror after, and them looking like a 5 year old who has just met a unicorn…!

3. What’s the worst part of your job?

Drunk people: when we try to set up and finish up. Unfortunately, there’s always a few people who have had one too many when we turn up and start rummaging as we set up, or asking us to glitter them when we get in the venue. We always finish around 10/10:30pm and there’s always one or two really drunk people who insist on getting glittered once we have packed up. To be honest it’s not awful, it’s just a bit of a pain. And that’s if I had to find something. We all have a good laugh at how drunk they are and go home and wrap ourselves up in our beds. So it’s not a horrible thing!

4. What’s the weirdest request you’ve ever had from a client?

Oh god, well one wedding fair, a bride asked if we drew c**ks on faces with glitter at hen do’s! (She didn’t want them and she was worried we would do that on her hen do!) …We have also been asked to glitter the groomsman’s winky before too, because we were doing the brides boobs…!

5. What’s been your favourite ever wedding you’ve worked on/at?

There’s so many. Natalie and Emma got to go to one in Norfolk with fire dancers and a cocktail bar in a tipi. I’ve had some great ones at East Quays in Kent. Always amazing brides there!  And there was of course our own wedding at Browning Bros, the [Luxurious Glitter] girls worked all night and loved it (I’m sure they did lol)!

6. You’re surrounded by beauty in your job, what do you find beautiful?

Colour and smiles every time, rainbows, glitter and happiness.

7. Best piece of advice to offer to those getting married?

It’s your wedding! As a couple it is both of your weddings, so plan together, organise together and make together. Don’t let it become one persons day. And enjoy the day!!!

8. Anyone you particularly admire in the industry?

Lucy from Lucy Can’t Dance (bridal designer/shop). I love her energy, shoots, dresses. She creates amazing dresses and content, and always looks likes she’s having a blast whilst doing it.

9. Best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

Breath! When anything is too much, when you need a minute, just breath when you need it!

10. What was your career plan B?

I was only just talking to the kids about this the other day, I always wanted to make wedding dresses… But unfortunately we weren’t allowed to do textiles at school for GCSEs as there wasn’t enough of us. I didn’t realise you could still learn at college… But before I knew it, I was hairdressing at the age of 14!

You…

11. Where do you call home?

Chelmsford is my home, and normally my little salon on the side of the house is my sanctuary.

12. What’s your favourite shop?

The Disney Store!

13. Favourite restaurant?

Cowabunga Pizza, Chloe [of Chloe Lee Photo] introduced me to Tom, and we had them for our wedding too.  They are a little pizza shop in Mearsea Island; well worth the drive. I’m dairy free and veggie, and Ben is allergic to tomatoes… And these guys made the best pizzas for us! They are super friendly too. Wish we lived closer but our waistlines are pleased we don’t!!

14. Who would you have play you in a movie about your life?

I’d love Pink to play me!!  I love my circus skills and her music, and they go together so well.

15. Cocktail of choice?

Blue Hawaii (or anything with rum in it, to be fair).

16. Your biggest extravagance?

Our wedding last year!! I was amazed how much we paid. But my monthly extravagance is my car. (She’s my baby!)

17. Do you collect anything?

Too much, according to Ben! I have over 200 Funko pops, a collection of Irregular choice shoes, a random collection of rubber ducks and the odd Disney item collected…

18. If you could buy any building, which would it be?

Just a house. A lovely family home. I love ours but hate that we rent.

19. What’s the most romantic thing someone’s ever done for you?

My engagement; Ben sent me out for the night and I came home to a trail of lights leading to the garden, with Rapunzel’s music playing ‘at last I see the light’ and the garden full of lanterns and him on one knee. My favourite part of any film reconstructed in my garden. It was beautiful.

(Claire I’m sobbing!! This sounds all kinds of magical!!)

20. Where do you go to let your hair down?

We don’t go out-out much. Having 2 children full time and Ben’s little girl every weekend, we like to have friends round for drinks, dinner and games. Myself and Ben are pretty good at letting our hair down whilst cooking a Sunday dinner though lol!

And finally…

21. Tell us something surprising about yourself!

I have recently learnt circus skills and preformed a hoop dance for our wedding as a surprise to Ben, I used to teach hairdressing, and have been hairdressing for 20 years!

22. Invisibility or flight?

Invisibility so I could spy on people!

23. Any regrets in life?

None really, I’m a great believer in everything is meant for a reason. And a great believer you meet people in life that come and go and there’s always a reason for it. You may not know why at the time, but, hey, that’s life, it’s there for the taking. (Sounds cheesy but I don’t regret marrying my first husband, without him I wouldn’t have my kids. And without splitting from him I would never have moved back to Chelmsford and met lovely friends and met Ben! I wouldn’t run Luxurious Glitter as a job and I wouldn’t have this life.)

24. Tell us your favourite Instagram accounts at the moment!

Boards by jess | Chloeleephoto | byVicki | Sugar and sloth (non-wedding but love a look on there) | Sugar and vice too (non-wedding but she can have all my money)

25. If you could change one thing in the world, what would it be?

No lockdown!! Running an eco friendly glitter bar I really do notice waste, and I have to say isolation has made me realise we don’t need next day delivery.  So, I would say a slower pace of life – with an environment glow with it.

Thank you so much to Claire from Luxurious Glitter for taking part!  I loved reading this one back! And how amazing does her wedding sound?! Would have loved to have been a guest at that one…! Someone who seems to truly know how to live life, and have so much fun while doing so ❤️
