A beautiful modern barn wedding with colour pop balloons, delicate details and espresso martinis at High Billinghurst Farm in Surrey.
I don’t often get the chance to do barn weddings, so I was thrilled when Mel + Alex got in touch last year to help with theirs!
Mel had a wonderful vision for their wedding, and was super organised pulling it all together, but I was there on the day for final details, final set up, and hosting.
Unlike a lot of dry hire venues I work at in London, Mel + Alex had the luxury of setting up their wedding the day before. So when I arrived on Saturday, there was only minor details to be finished and put in place. Helium balloons to blow up, garden games to assemble, outdoor seating to put out, table plans and signage to be put in place, batteries to go into things, music to be plugged in, fairy lights to switch on – the list goes on. All the little jobs that, combined, take a few hours to make perfect and pretty (along with greeting and managing all the other suppliers that were arriving for set up), while Mel + Alex were off getting married in a quaint little church nearby.
The colour palette was warm, and filled with delicate peaches and light pinks, which tied in wonderfully with the hues of the barn and its internal beams. There was lots of luscious greenery as a base inside the barn, layered with peach and pink roses and dahlias. It was quite a wow moment when I arrived on Saturday to be greeted with such stunning floral installations by the team at Mad Lilies! (That fireplace!!) The décor and floral design Mel had handpicked conveyed a wonderful rustic elegance when teamed with the pine interiors of the barn – the wooden pallets and limewash chiavari chairs really set this off. Mel complimented this with some colour pop balloons and some ombre tassels for some additional décor.
We were banking on the weather being good, and thankfully we lucked out! It was a typical Surrey summers day in August, which allowed us to have the drinks reception outside as planned, while final prep for the wedding breakfast was being done inside the barn itself. There were cocktails, canapes and beers outside, while guests played lawn games and took photos in the beautiful gardens of the farm.
An elegant wedding breakfast followed, with some after dinner espresso martinis which went down a storm! The dancefloor was packed all night! (One of the best and most packed dancefloors I have ever seen!) It was a great day for it, and a beautiful modern barn wedding at the infamous High Billinghurst Farm.
Wedding Coordination by Devine Bride.
“I could not recommend working with Laura more. From the moment we met her, Laura was super efficient and lovely to work with! We used Laura for on the day coordination but her help and advice in the lead up to the day was invaluable. She created a thorough schedule for the day and introduced herself to all of our suppliers well ahead of time.
When we turned up at our wedding reception after our church service, we were amazed at Laura’s super styling skills. She’d made everything that we had set up the day before look 100% better! Her and her also assistant helped to run the day seamlessly and Laura always made sure that Alex and I were fed and watered!
Wish we could work with her again 😊 Thanks Laura! X”
