A contemporary city wedding with lots of greenery, copper, flower orbs, and a hoop bouquet, in Stoke Newington at this gorgeous wedding at Clissold House.
Alison contacted me for some support and ideas after finding me on Instagram – which I absolutely love! I pride myself in sharing content, ideas, and helpful hints and tips on my blog and social media, so it’s lovely to hear when couples actually find me via social media – and actually find my images or tips helpful or inspiring!
Alison + Philip got married at Stoke Newington Town Hall and had their reception at Clissold House in the gorgeous Clissold Park, which are about a 3 minute walk away from each other – so thank goodness they are both such beautiful venues!
They had some specific ideas about what they did and didn’t want, and what was important to them. The locality of Clissold Park was important because they live very close to it and visit often – such a luxury to have such a lovely park on your doorstep, and within one of the most desirable and cosmopolitan village pockets of London! This also added to the vibe they wanted for their day; a very relaxed affair with guests arriving to their drinks reception after a short walk through the park. They focussed on good food, nice drinks, and some very stylish details for the rest of their wedding, in a bright, light filled venue surrounded by urban greenery at this wedding at Clissold House.
They didn’t do a first dance and they didn’t want a wild party, instead they wanted something a bit more intimate, where they could relax and have fun with their friends, whilst enjoying a delicious dinner accompanied by some fun dinner party anecdotes/speeches and good music. The ambience was very much a sophisticated (but fun) soiree, like a dinner party a celebrity might throw! Clissold House was perfect for this given its size; the max amount of guests you can seat for dinner is around 55 guests, which was exactly Alison + Philips total guest count.
Alison had a real eye for detail and I absolutely loved her styling, and absolutely loved putting it all together for her on the day. I recommended a florist friend (Green & Envy) early on in our planning to help bring together Alison’s gorgeous ideas, including a hoop bouquet and some gorgeous flower orbs. There was also some other elegant but fun stationery, which included their table plan that flipped to be their polaroid photo board after dinner.
It was May, but we got some delayed April showers and a bit of everything that day! However the massive bay windows of the sunshine room (‘The Drawing Room’ – the yellow room) at Clissold House and the stunning backdrop of Clissold Park, meant Alison and Philip’s day was bright, light filled, and evergreen all day – with an abundance of fun and laughter, as you can tell from Alison’s gorgeous smile in all her photos below!
Clissold House gave the couple the perfect intimate wedding reception, right on their doorstep, but it was not without its limitations. The house is run by Hackney Council, as is the park, so there are perhaps more rules and regulations than a lot of other dry hire venues I have worked at – but none that can’t be overcome! One main thing to note is the set up and take down times that are allowed, as well as vehicle access and entry times into the park (for furniture, food/catering, flower and décor deliveries). These times are very strictly restricted and policed due to public health and safety, as the park (as well as the house), is open to the public until around 6-8pm. So this is definitely something to consider before you book your ceremony time so that you can give your suppliers enough time to set up for your arrival – Alison and Phillip got married at Stoke Newington Town Hall at 2pm, for arrival at Clissold House by around 2.45pm, which was just about perfect for all the suppliers (including me!) to set up their perfect reception to kick off celebrations following their ceremony. A fav wedding for me at Clissold House.
Wedding Coordination and Take Down Service by Devine Bride.
“Well, if you’ve just got engaged you’re on the right page already! We got married about 6 weeks ago and asked Laura to be our on-the-day coordinator and do take down as well. I’ve said to so many people since that hiring Laura was the best wedding money we spent. I’ve organised corporate events for work but when I met Laura I was like “this woman is more organised than me!”. She produced the most amazing wedding brief that meant on the day everyone knew what would happen when, she dealt with suppliers in the week running up to the wedding, she even dealt with me WhatsApp’ing her the night before with a random panic question about our venue! And she is so, so lovely, you’ll wish she was your friend. Most people at our wedding thought she was a friend of ours. She posts some lovely ideas on Insta (that we totally used as inspiration) and recommended us a brilliant florist. I can’t recommend her enough. Book her in for yours and you’ll just be able to enjoy your wedding without thinking about anything else other than what a lovely time you’re having. We had such a lovely wedding and it wouldn’t have been half as enjoyable had Laura not been there making sure everything went to plan.”
